Position Description

Clinical Research Project Coordinator (part-time)

HOPE-Can: Hyperoxaluria Outcome and Patient Evaluation Canada

Division of Nephrology, The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto

Position summary

HOPE-Can is the Canadian national patient registry for primary hyperoxaluria, hosted at SickKids and funded by the Canadian Drug Agency. It collects longitudinal clinical, biochemical and outcome data using a data dictionary harmonised with the OXALEurope and Mayo Clinic registries. We seek a part-time Clinical Research Coordinator to take day-to-day responsibility for the registry, including ethics submissions, patient recruitment, data collection and quality control, and liaison with participating centres across the country.

Key responsibilities

·        Prepare, submit and maintain Research Ethics Board (REB) protocols, amendments, renewals and related regulatory documentation, and support REB submissions at participating sites.

·        Identify, approach and consent eligible patients and families, in collaboration with the clinical team at SickKids and with collaborating centres.

·        Collect and enter clinical, laboratory and outcome data into the registry database (REDCap), including retrospective chart abstraction.

·        Perform ongoing quality control: source data verification, query resolution, consistency checks and documentation of data cleaning.

·        Maintain registry documentation: data dictionary, standard operating procedures, consent logs and enrolment tracking.

·        Act as the main point of contact for participating centres and support reporting to the funder and the steering committee.

·        Contribute to abstracts, manuscripts and presentations arising from registry data.

·        Setting up meeting agendas and organizing steering committee meetings, as well as assist with stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

Required

·        Undergraduate degree in health sciences, life sciences or a related discipline.

·        Demonstrated experience preparing and managing REB (or IRB) submissions.

·        Direct experience working with patients and families in a clinical or research setting, including obtaining informed consent.

·        Experience with electronic data capture systems (REDCap preferred) and with clinical data entry and quality control.

·        Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.

·        A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives

Preferred

·        Working knowledge of clinical medicine, laboratory data or nephrology. Formal medical training is an asset but is not required.

·        Prior experience with patient registries, rare disease research or multi-centre studies.

·        Working knowledge of French, given the national scope of the registry.

Employment Type & Terms:

·        Part-time temporary 1 year contract, approximately one to two days per week (0.2 to 0.4 FTE).

·        Highly flexible schedule with substantial scope for remote work, subject to occasional on-site presence at SickKids for patient-facing activities and chart access.

·        Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

·        Start date flexible; the position is available immediately.
