Role is for development and deployment of a federated AI-enabled medical imaging and EHR analytics platform (containerized AI, medical image processing, integration with clinical databases, LLM-based EHR extraction, federated learning, data governance).
One of Canada's Top 10 Research Hospitals, Sunnybrook Research Institute is developing innovations in care for the more than 1.3 million patients the hospital cares for annually.
Sunnybrook Research Institute is the research enterprise of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Research spans three Toronto-based campuses, eight programs and three scientific platforms. Our main aims are to understand and prevent disease, and to develop treatments that enhance and extend life. Our vision is to invent the future of health care. Each year, we conduct about $100 million in research across 500,000 square feet, including in the world’s first Centre for Research in Image-Guided Therapeutics.
Position Overview
The Holland Bone and Joint Program is seeking a Research Engineer or Research Associate to support development and deployment of a federated AI-enabled imaging and EHR analytics platform integrating deep learning, large language models, quantitative imaging biomarkers, and advanced visualization tools.
This position combines hands-on software development, medical image analysis, data integration, and technical coordination within a clinically translational research environment.
General duties will include typical day to day management of an experimental lab and computational research facility. This includes assisting with purchasing, software licensing, hardware integration, updating project documentation (AUPs, REBs, drug exemptions, etc.) and maintaining lab equipment, space, and information systems (confluence, software repositories) in concert with other employees. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and time-management skills to maintain current lab procedures and implement new systems to enhance lab function while conducting their research-related activities.
