The Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Software Developer to join our Technology Operations team to help design, build, and run the products that drive our success. You'll spend most of your time on software development, but you'll also be involved in planning, testing, operations, and support as part of our frequent release cycle. This is a role for someone who thinks strategically and can pinpoint the trade-offs between different approaches. You will own large areas of functionality, understanding its behaviours at a deep level and how it interacts with other systems.

The ideal candidate will bring ambition to transform the Canadian healthcare system with big ideas, a bias toward action, and an aptitude for building simple, robust solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build front-end features using React/Redux, TypeScript, CSS, and HTML5;
• Develop on the back-end using TypeScript (Node.js) and Python (Django);
• Write automated tests and help shape our testing best practices (Jest, Selenium);
• Work hands-on with PostgreSQL;
• Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform;
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team on the design, development, and testing of our product;
• Help assure product quality through automated testing and monitoring;
• Embody a DevOps mindset and take ownership of our CI/CD pipeline;
• Find simple solutions to complex problems, and debate trade-offs with product and development teams;
• Push yourself and the team to explore and adopt new and better technologies;
• Propose new ideas and processes that build a culture of technical excellence;
• Participate in iteration planning, testing, bug fixing, and release deployment;
• Create and maintain documentation for complex technical code;
• Actively mentor less experienced team members.

Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and deploying commercial software applications;
• Solid knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, plus good working knowledge of cloud ops and networking;
• Strong ability to communicate complex technical issues to a range of audiences;
• Strong organizational and mentorship skills;
• Deep experience working with REST/GraphQL APIs;
• Experience developing in TypeScript, CSS, and HTML5;
• Experience with React and Node.js;
• Experience with Jest or similar testing frameworks (Mocha, Jasmine);
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL;
• Experience with Selenium or Playwright;
• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions or TeamCity;
• Familiarity building and deploying Docker containers, especially on AWS ECS;
• Familiarity with application logging, monitoring, and alerting (e.g. CloudWatch or similar).

Nice-to-Haves

• Mobile development experience and experience with Redux or Flux are a plus;
• Experience with scalable microservices and security;
• Experience with the AWS ecosystem (EC2, S3, RDS, ECS, Lambda, IAM, KMS, Route53).

Salary Information: The base salary range for this role is $125,000-135,000/year. The base salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
