Position Information

The Specialist 1, Digital Education at The Ottawa Hospital plays a pivotal role in advancing our healthcare system through the integration of clinical expertise, workflow optimization, and education design. In this dynamic position, you will be instrumental in designing and delivering comprehensive training programs that empower our staff to leverage technology effectively in patient care. Your responsibilities will encompass not only building and testing training environments but also diving deep into clinical workflows to ensure alignment with training requirements. As a Specialist 1, Digital Education you will have the opportunity to attain certification as an Epic Principal Trainer in one or more applications. 

Rotation/Shifts

Days, 8 hour shifts.

Basic Requirements

• Training and Instructional Design Skills: As the role involves developing and delivering training programs, basic training and instructional design skills are required. These skills ensure that the Specialist can create engaging and effective educational materials, catering to the diverse learning needs of healthcare professionals;
• Effective Communication and Collaboration: Given the collaborative nature of the role, effective communication skills are a minimum requirement. The Specialist must be able to articulate complex informatics concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, fostering collaboration between clinical and IT teams;
• Completion of 4 year Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Education, Instructional Design, Informatics or other related fields. 
• Five (5) years of practical experience working in a clinical setting, or five (5) years of progressive experience in Information Systems;
• Eligible to work in Canada.
   

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Epic Certification: Attainment of Epic certification is a non-negotiable requirement, ensuring the Specialist possesses in-depth knowledge of Epic Applications and is well-equipped to deliver effective training programs. This certification establishes a baseline competency for the role. If the incumbent is not already certified in an Epic Application, they will be supported in doing so during their employment;
• Epic Application Principal Trainer/Analyst certification *Applicants without this certification will be required to obtain it during their tenure;
• Experience in clinical informatics or a related field;
• Project management experience, preferably within the healthcare IT or clinical informatics domain.
• Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
