eHealth role summary

Role is focused on managing clinical registries and healthcare databases (CorHealth/DCIS), clinical data abstraction, validation, reporting and dashboards — core health informatics / healthcare data functions.

About this role

Summary of Duties

  • Reporting to the Manager, Schulich Heart Program, the incumbent will manage and maintain cardiac and vascular clinical databases and registries within the Schulich Heart Program.
  • Responsible for data entry, validation, and maintenance within the CorHealth DCIS registry, including procedures such as Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), MitraClip, Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO), as well as all cardiac surgery procedures.
  • Support and maintain program-level databases, including the Vascular Limb Presentation Database (VLPP).
  • Perform data collection through comprehensive chart review and abstraction (paper and electronic records).
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data submissions to internal databases and external registries (e.g., CorHealth/DCIS).
  • Generate regular and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and statistical summaries to support clinical, operational, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams (e.g., surgeons, cardiologists, medical secretaries, cardiac coordinators), Decision Support, and other members of the Schulich Heart Program (e.g. Data Analyst) to support data collection, validation, and reporting processes.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external agencies (e.g., CorHealth Ontario, registry bodies) in the performance of duties.
  • Attend CorHealth Ontario meetings related to the DCIS registry, contributing to updates, data quality discussions, and alignment with provincial standards.
  • Provision of training and subject matter expertise to program staff in areas of data standards, definitions, and registry requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives related to data integrity and reporting.
  • This role has the potential for expansion in scope and responsibilities in alignment with program growth and evolving data and reporting needs.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences, Computer Science, Epidemiology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a hospital-based setting with clinical chart review, data abstraction, and healthcare databases
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical registries (e.g., CorHealth) or similar large-scale data systems preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (e.g., pivot tables, data validation, basic analytics) and PowerPoint; technical assessment may be required
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, and data visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) considered an asset
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular terminology and procedures strongly preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in data entry and validation
  • Ability to interpret clinical documentation and apply standardized definitions for registry reporting
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with clinical and administrative stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Flexible and adaptable, with a commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement
