Professional Pratice Leader - VEP Ventilator Equipment Pool

PRIMARY FUNCTION
In this role, the Professional Practice Leader provides overall clinical and technical leadership for the provincial Ventilator Equipment Pool, including the development and delivery of best‑practice, evidence‑based clinical and professional services, in accordance with the mandate of the Ministry of Health – Assistive Devices Program (ADP).
Key responsibilities include oversight of the adjudication of Applications for Funding for Ventilator Equipment and Supplies through the monitoring and auditing of claims to ensure compliance with Ministry of Health ADP general and medical eligibility criteria. This includes reviewing claims for prescription accuracy, assessing the clinical appropriateness of prescribed equipment, and providing guidance on best practices for ventilator‑assisted individuals (VAIs). In addition, the Professional Practice Leader provides clinical expertise to inform the development and implementation of technology‑enabled respiratory care for ventilator‑assisted individuals and other users of home respiratory equipment, including remote ventilator data download and new initiatives. The role supports respiratory clinicians across the province by offering expert clinical guidance in the analysis and interpretation of remote ventilator downloads and by addressing complex equipment and technology‑related questions.
The Professional Practice Leader is responsible for the recruitment, mentorship, coaching, and professional development of direct reports, including Respiratory Therapists, Biomedical Technologists, purchased service providers, RT Clerk(s) and VEP Clinical Learning Specialist. The role also contributes to fiscal, legal, inventory, and resource management; quality assurance and system integration; leadership and change management initiatives; staff supervision and development; and the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
Together with the VEP Program Manager, the Professional Practice Leader serves as a 24/7 on‑call resource for Respiratory Therapists conducting home visits during evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as for Respiratory Therapists providing after‑hours on‑call service. This availability supports the management of complex and high‑risk situations.
The Professional Practice Leader is accountable for contributing to the delivery of KHSC's strategy by demonstrating an awareness of and actively promoting patient and family centred care.
